ELWOOD G. DENY “UNDERCOVER” PROBE IN ATLANTA Department of Justice Officials Say Semi-Annual Check-Up Is Being Made. By the Associated Press. ‘The investigation being conducted at the Federal Penitentiary at Atlanta is declared at the Department of Justice to be only the usual somi-annual check- ing-up made of all Federal prisons. The agents making the investigation are regular department investigators who are assigned to the work, the de- partment sald. It was denied emphati- cally at the department that there hed been any sort of “undercover” investiag- tion at the Atlanta institution and none was intended, as conditions there were satisfactory. The investigation, it was explained. also was not directed particularly at the recent attempt of prisoners to_escape from the Atlanta institution. The a‘- tempted escape would be inquired into, the department said, just as other rou- tine matters, such as checking the num- ber of blankets used in the prison. Resignation Iaccepted. The President has accepted th» resignation of First Lieut. James E. Brackbill, Army Medical Corps, recently stationed at the Walter Reed General Hospital, this city. Lieut.
