CHICAGO, September 21.—Word was out for several hours today that Al (Scarface) Capone had shot himself, quite accidentally, the reports made quick to state, but shot nevertheless. It looked like a good story for the newspapers, but there were some points about it that did not look just right to tha skeptical reporters. The accounts said, for instance, that Capone had shot himself as he was stepping into his motor car following a game of golf. The reporters did not discredit the motor car angle, but they scratched their heads | over the golf.
