PARIS, September 21.—William Rich- | ard Hereford, American journalist who served American newspapers in Europe for many years, died at his home here | today, at the age of 57. ¢ Mr. Hereford. who was born in St Joseph, Mo.. began newspaper work in Kansas City in 1890 and later went to New York. He was secretary to ihe American Minister to Switzerland from 1895 to 1897 and then returncd t journalism. From 190% until 1907 was editor of the New York Hi the European edition of the New Herald-Tribune., and later was Paris correspondent of the New York World He made a tour of South America in the interests of the Carncgie Founda- tion of International Peace in 1913. and during the war served prominently in the American Ambulance Service.
