BY WILLIAM F. HEFFERNAN. Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, April 4-—Ignoring al- most entirely the new peak record in brokers' loans reported by the Stock Exchange, the speculative element went ahead with its operations on the buy- ing side of the curb market today. Shares of companies identified with the airplane industry were in demand at new high prices. They were receiv- ing their stimulus, of course, from the spectacular gyrations in this class of stocks on the big board. Curtiss Aero Export crossed 33's, Aero Supply class | “A" sold above 20 and the “B" stock | above 16. Sugar Stocks Strong. Sugar stocks had as their incentive; for the buying the better outlook for the market for raw and refined sugar and the hardening tendency of prices. Shares of companies in the “duty-free” category were principal beneficiaries in the buving Fajardo Sugar went into| new high ground at 162 and Central Aguirre after opening lower more than | r ed the loss. National Sugar o New Jersey was another to reach new top_prices, | | Other features included Columbia Graphophone, up more than 3 points; | National Dairy Products, up almost Bl | points, and General Fireproof, up more than a point, all at new highs Buckeye Pipe Outstanding. Buckeye Pipe Lifie was outstanding | among the oils, reaching a fresh top at 73 The incentive here was the prospect of some special distribution when directors next meet. Vacuum Oil was not influenced by the declaration of a 100 per cent stock dividend, inas- much as this was known to be the in- tention at the time directors increased the authorized stock from 2,800,000 shares to 7,000,000 shares. Penn-Ohio Securities continued prom- inent among utilities, although the dis- position was to take down profits. Ex- panding operations and the strategical position of communities served by the | property apparently has been the in- centive for the recent demand. COTTON PRICES RISE | ON LIVERPOOL NEWS Texas Weather Also Is Factor in| Dealings on the New York. Exchange Today. By the Associated Press NEW YORK, April 4—The cotton market opened steady today at un- changed prices to an advance of 7 points, in response to relatively firm | Liverpool cables and failure of early| weather Teports to show any general| rains in west Texas. The advance met considerable realiz ing, but it was absorbed cn slight set- backs, the market becoming rathar raore active and firmer toward the end of the first hour. | July sold up to 19.28 and October to 19.03, net advances of 10 to 12 points. The trade seemed to be more influenced by bullish than bearish features in the weekly report of the Weather Bureau. Liverpool cables reported trade call- ing and London buying in the market | there, and fair sales of cotton cloths fo| India and China. FEDERAL LAND BANK BONDS. (Quote1 by Alex. Brown & Sons.
