Svecial Dispateh to The Star, NEW YORK, February 3.—Withstand- ing as it did the rather unexpected increase in the New York Federal Re- serve rediscount rate from 3% to 4 per cent, the curb market's action to- day gave one of the clearest Indica- tons of the utter disregard with which the speculative community has faced adverse developments on the outside. The immediate response was rather a sharp break in the recent favorites. But they showea thelr ability to re- cover later and in & number of in- stances to go forward into new high ground, & Eleotric, crossing 126, was up almost 3 points on the day and at a new high record. The 18- point rise Thursday in American Light & Traction was tollowed by an over- night drop ot 10 points. The stock re- guvered lost ground later.
