De- bussy's “Iberfa,” with its French over- tones and iInterpretation of Spanish melodiés, was woven bit by bit before the imaginative eyes of the audience. And, finally, the unfa‘homable depths of sreat music was sounded as Mr. Mengelberg built with his orchestra Cesar Franck’'s majestic cathedral of muste, the “Symphony in D. Minor.” The religious beauties of this composition are soul-satisfy- ine, especially the pizzicato beginning of the second movement and the eli- max, with this motive as it ig brought out most inspiringly, in the third movement. Throughout the program Mr., Men- welberg and his orchestra were unit- edly superb and they provided two and a half hours of exquisite beauty. There are other great orchestras in this country, seems improbable that the Philhar- mon‘c has an equal under Mr. Men- kelberg anywhere In the world, H. F. THE DAVISON GLEE CLUB. John R. Each song pre sented was a real gem of musical writing and the entire program was exce'lently arranged. Assisting the club were, Adolf Torovsky at the organ; D, lascone, flutist, and Cath- reen Carrico, soprano. There {8 no doubt that it is an excellent thing for such a club to study the finest of song literature. Wheth or not it should attempt to present whole programs of it pub- liely in unfinished, student fashion is another matter.
