The Mission needs miore f0odstuffs, More ClOthINE. | —— more dolls, toys and games, and issues | an urgent appeal that unless aid is| forthcoming these families must spend | Christmas Day in want and suffering. A small quantity of second-hand! tovs have been received, some food and some clothing, but these are for the most part inadequate. There is need for much more, especially in the | line of foed and clothing, it is pointed out by Mrs. Henry V. Prentice, who is in charge of the charities work at the Mission. There are families on its list where the mother is ill, the father out of emplovment and the children are with- out the proper clothing to keep them| warm and without sufficient food to keep them from being hungry. Christ- mas will only add to their misery unless im~~diate aid is forthcoming. Families in Poverty. There are familles living in one small room in the greatest of poverty. ‘There are children without. shoes or stockings who cannot even- venture | outside for “ear of catching pold. Many instances of genuine suffer- ing have been brought to the Mission through the heart-rending appeals of poverty-stricken mothers. not ask for toyvs, although a doll or some discarded plaything would do much to brighten the eyes of ticir little one on the day that Santa Claus is supposed to come. They ask for food, they ask for a shawl, they n(l for a little coat to keep their warm, they plead for these necessities and they go away hopeful that som: one will supply them. The Gospel Mission knows that | many of these suffering people m want in vain. Its store of ¢ s.ant, its provisio s are few. T is still time in the next few days for n.uch to be done. A phone call will bring a delivery truck to receive dona- | tions of any kind. There are workers ‘at the Mission ready a‘ all times to receive anything that may be brought for the poor. But there is much that is to be done, and the Mission issues an urgent appeal for all who are will- ing to help to come to the front as generously as possible and as quickly as possible. “The Gift That Stands Alone” Canadian Balsam Xmas Trees At 2917 Connecticut Ave., at Cathedral Mansions And the following locations for your convenience: 4209 9th St. 315 14th St. Brookland at 12th & Monroe 16th St. at Lamont Chevy Chase Circle 18th St. & K Sheridan Circle Connecticut Ave. & R 13th & K Sts.
