QUEBEC, December 23.—While 30 children perished in the fi which destroyed the Hospice of St. Charles’ Orphanage last week, two firemen were rummaging through the drawers of a desk in a wing far removed from | the seat of the blaze, witnesses testi- fied yesterday at an inquiry into the disaster.
