To those who have wondered whether the 30 pieces of silver pos- sessed a symbolic siznificance, it is in- teresting to know that this sum was the price of a human being in the e of Jesus. An adult male worker customarily sold for 30 tetra-drachmas. Dr. George Reid Andrews of the Fed- eral Council of Churches of Christ states that the sum paid was equiva- lent to about $15 in our money. Thus it was really a pitiful sum— the worth of a common slave—for which Judas sold his Master to the chief priests, and this fa ihe oft-repeated contention of Joseph Schildkraut, who |\4n(!1\¢1|l\|0 char: acter in the picture udas was actuated in his t ¢ not by the price (which was merely symbolic) but by disillusionment of his hopes of a temporal kingdom and a frantic desire to escape personally the vengeance of the Jewish hierarchy. “The King of Kings” is presented by Pathe, with touring symphony or- chestra and all the effects of the origi- nal New York presentation.
