T. Clagett, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8. 1927 CLAGETT OUTLINES NEW PHONE SERVICE Says Proposed Improvement Will Have “Negligible” Effect on Rates o in Montgomery County. of the Chesapeake & Potomac Tele- phone Co. Fears that the new service, which it is planned to put into effect about February 1, would bring about an increase in rates has aroused tele- phone subscribers in a number of Montgomery County communities. The Bethesda Chamber of Commerce last night appointed a committee to investigate the proposed rate sched- ule and to represent it at hearings before the ,Maryland Public Serv- Ilce Commission. Other organizations in the country areas, it was said, also have planned to protest. Mr. Clagett, however, indicated that the tele- phone subscribers are unnecessarily alarmed. “In proposing a new plan of rates superintendent |in Montgomery County, adjacent to Washington the effect on the rev- enue of the company is entirely inci- dental,” was Mr. Clagett's statement. “The purpose of the plan is for a more satisfactory arrangement both as re- gards the public and the company without regard to revenue. “Whether the company’s revenue will be increased or decreased will de- pend largely upon the class of service which subscribers will select under the proposed plan. This cannot be determined now, but the company considers that the effect on revenue, whatever it may be, will be negli- gible.” st Over 1,000,000 people worshiped at the shrine of Moiji, the liberator of Tokio, on “Moiji day,” while 200 air- planes gave a display overhead.
