HEN on Thursday evening the President and Mrs. Cool tertain the Vice President and Mrs. Dawes and the of the cabinet and their ladies at dinner in the state dining room at ‘the \White House, the official season will be formally opened. To have followed the Chief Executive and the First Lady of the Land since their return from the Black Hills one might imagine the season opened then. and especially as there have been many brilliant cvents in the cabinet and in diplomatic ranks. However, it is not until the President gives the first of the series of state entertainments that the scason is officially opened. HE dinner which the President and Mrs. Coolidge are to give De- cember 6 for the governor gencral of Canada and Viscountess Will- ingdon will be a formal event and two days later the reception in honor of the diplomatic corps will be given. Of course, there are other im- portant events attending the visit of the governor gcnc;al, such as his own dinner party given while he is host instead of guest in the Canadian | legation. The State Department is arranging the welcome to Viscount | Willingdon and the events accompanying his visit. | | HE program for a scason at the White House was never more com- plete than for this Winter, with all of the larger events methodically scheduled and intervals left here and there for important things that come unexpectedly, such as the visit of foreign potentates.
