Joseph Bangora, one of the men killed, was identified by the 'police as a notorious bomb planter. The officers were sure that Bangora, once affiliated with the Genna gang, had been killed by a premature explosion of one of his own bombs, An examination of the ruins of the building at 2638 Prairie avenue re- vealed a still containing alcohol which was intact. This convinced officers at the blast was caused by a bomb from without. Evidence found at the scene of the other explosion, 2012 South Wabash, convinced police that this was also a bomb job.
