Adding another large section to the ever-growing surburban residential areas of Greater Washington, the firm of Ruby Lee Minar, Inc., active in Virginia real estate operations, has begun the development of a 100- acre tract of land known as the Tripp Farm, which is situated just west of the corporate limits of Falls Church, Va. The Tripp Farm now is a scene of activity as a large force of men are at work putting in improvements in i A steam shovel and are being employed in leveling the high embankment that faces the Lee Highway at this point and three main streets and their abutting sidewalks are being laid. The new subdivision is to be opened with formal ceremonies June 18, it was announced today by Mrs. Minar. Forty acres of the section are to be developed at this time and the re- mainder at a later date, according to present plans. The new suburb is to be called Geenway Downs. The name was se- lected by a committee of judges from among nearly 1,000 suggested names. It was proposed by Miss Sarah A. Howlett, 2009 Park road, who will be awarded a prize of $100 offered by the Minar company for the best name. The judges were Mrs. Grace Hays Riley, dean of the Washington Collegs aw and president of the Woman" City Club; Joshua Evans, jr.; Dorsey W. Hyde, jr., secretary of the Wash. ington Chamber of Commerce; W. S. Hoge, jr., and Mrs. Minar. Greenway Downs was the choice of the committee because of its attrac. tiveness and its association with Lord Fairfax, romantic figure of the colo- nial days of this section of the coun- try. Lord Fairfax, it is recalled, owned the Northern Neck of Virginia. The manor house of Lord Fairfax, At White Post, Va., was known as “Greenway Court,” and it was from this old estate that the name of Green- way Downs was derived. NEW ;IEALTORS’ GROUP.
