Charles A. Lind- bergh was born in Stockholm of Luth- eran parentage and was himself bap- tized in the Lutheran faith. When a year and a half old he was brought to Melrose, Minn. Here among the sturdy farmers of the Northwest he received his education from the public schools and was catechized and confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran Church. “Later, while serving as Representa- tive from Minnesota, he was a regular worshiper at both the Swedish and Norwegian Lutheran churches in ‘Washington from 1907 to 1917. “Col. Lindbergh grew up in a re- ligious home and atmosphere. He re- ceived his education through the pub- lic schools of Minnesota, at Grove Lake Academy and the University of Michigan. While he was born in De- troit, Mich., his boyhood days were spent among the Swedish and Nor- wegian Lutherans around Little Falls, Minn. “Mrs. Lindbergh is of the Scotch Campbellite persuasion. While the rural sections and long distances of Minnesota prevented young Lindbergh from receiving regular and systematic religious education in his early days, his mother gives much credit to his Congressman father, who taught his boy the catechism in the home. Mrs. Lindbergh is a teacher of chemistry in the Cass Technical High School of Detroit. She is unassuming, educated, refined and charming. Her influence over the young aviator must not be minimized. However, she gives much of the credit for her son's clean living, deep spiritual life and daring and per- sistent element in his character to his Swedish Lutheran ancestry and to his daily lessons in Luther's catechism taught by his Lutheran father, now deceased.” TARTAN.
