ENGINEERS HEAR TALK ON PUEBLO INDIANS Bociety Shown Slides to Illustrate Civilization of Ancient Tribes. optom- he Moore The prehistoric Pueblo Indians and , their descendants were the subject of e lantern slide lecture last night before the Washington Society of Engineers at the Cosmos Club, by Neil M. Judd, curator of American archeology, National Museum. The ancient civilizations of Wyom- ing and New Mexico were traced by Mr. Judd, who began his historical outline with the subjugation of the Pueblos by Coronado in 1540. He de- seribed the important tribe of Zuni Pueblos as peaceful, sedentary folk, whose women were given over to di- versified household duties and whose men were mainly occupled with agri- cultural pursuits. The language of the Zuni was unrelated to any other in’ the world, according to Mr. Judd. The terraced houses, engineering feats and distinct culture of the Chaco Canyon Indians were pointed out as a direct inheritance of their prehistoric ancestors, who had paved the way without Beasts of burden or metal tools. Scenes were shown of Acama, Ariz., depicted as the oldest continuously inhabited site in the United States. Mr. Judd graphically portrayed how village upon village had been erected through the centu- ries directly upon the Indian habita- tlons that had immediately preceded. The oldest form of industry in the United States was the manufacture of baskets, Mr. Judd sald. NOTED SWIMMER BURIED. Puneral Services in Chicago for Sybil Bauer.
