ABERD: Scotland, Novem- ber 30.—The possibility of communion with the spirits of the dead now is interesting many people in England, but tinkers and other nomads of the ountryside have keld this belief for | ages, An instance of this was illustrated shire. An old tinker woman stood by the side of an open grave reciting a chant of all the virtues of the dead man, and each one of the funeral party sprinkled a handful of earth on the coffin lid. The coffin rested on the heather, and the dead man’s pipe and piece of tobacco were placed in the grave. One of the women of the party said the old man “will keep the tryst we made over his grave.” “His spirit was there and that spirit will yet talk to us and tell us how our friend is getting on in the great land beyond our ken,” she said. “But be- fore that tryst is kept, he will have a long dreary journey over black moun. tains and swollen rivers until he finds peace, “We are no heathens, though we are not church people.
