Quijano, with his oration, “Rizal, tHe Immortal” won first prize in the sixth annual oratorical contest of the. Filipino Club of Washington, held last night in the assembly hall of the Y. M. C. A. Second prize was awarded to James G. Wingo, speaking on “Vanguards of Amerigan Civiliza- tion,” and third prize went to Juan A. He reviewed the influence of Dr. Jose Rizal, Filipino patriot on his country, and declared that acting upon the inspiration left as a ‘precious legacy” by the soldier, sculptor, poet and statesman, Filipinos should place their homeland “in the galaxy of free and sovereign nations.” Mr. Wingo, whose home was at Cébogao, Tloco Sur Prévince, recently came from the islands, where he was a student at the University of the Philippines. Mr. Soller is a student at George Washington University, and like Wingo, formerly lived at Cobogao.
