PACKERS PHELD BYAPPEALS CORT Right of Government to Ex- amine Company Books Is Denied. By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, October 28.—Litigation of several years between the Govern- ment and the large packing com- wanies over the Government's right to cxamine the packing companies’ books was decided for the packers yes- terday by the United States Circuit Court of Appeals, which ruled the Governmenf has no right to examine or make coples of the books, and or- dered the dismissal of the mandamus proceedings {instituted by the United States Attorney General and _pre- viously upheld by Federal Judge Adam C. Cliffe. The Government's action was based on the packers and stockyards act of 1921, which, the Government claimed, zave the Secretary of Agriculture the right to examine and make copie: of all the books and records of the vackers for the information of Con- gress and for use in possible investi- gation of conditions In the packing businese. SKELLEFTEA, Sweden, October 28.—A gold rush on the Alaskan style is taking place here, due to the re- ported new discoveries of valuable ore bodies in the Province of Vester- botten. The list of minerals they sontain includes copper, zinc, arsenic, silver and gold. At Boliden, where most of the gold occurs, mining has already started. There is as yet no railroad to the place and the best owe is carted to the waterfront in motor trucks, while the lower grades are stored. New buildings are springing up at a rapid pace and plans for an entir¢ city have been laid out about the vil- lage nearest the mine. The ore was discovered by the new electrical prospecting methods _in vented by Hans Lundberg and Karl Sundsberg, Swedish mining engineers. Sheets to the number of more than 300 can be dealt with at one time by a new wflsl“ng machine exhibited in London.
