KANSAS CITY, October 11.—Ralph Stout, managing editor of the Kan- sas City Star and one of the most widely known newspaper men in the Middle West, died here early yester- day. Mr. Stout, who had been intimately associated with the Star and fits founder, Willlam Rockhill Nelson, since 1886, had been in poor health for more than a year. Death was due to heart' disease. ‘The body was found by Mrs. Stout at Sni-a-Bar Farm, the Nelson counuy estate, Mr. Stout had succumbed to ‘the attack sorw time during the night. Mr. Stout Was born in Adrian, Mich., July 11, 1866. He was educated at the University of Kansas, and follow- ing his graduation, became a reporter on the Star. In 1889 he became city editor and in 1905 he was made man- aging editor, holding that position ever since. He was one of the larger stockholders in the Kansas City Star Co., which recently purchased the property from the trustees of the William R. Nelson estate. In 1921 he compiled and edited a volume composed of editorials written for the Star by Col. Mrs. Clara Virginia Wynkoop Dor- sey, 76 years old, dled yesterday, after a long illness, at her residence, 115 Chestnut avenue, Takoma Park. She was the widow of Rev. James Owen Dorsey, noted authority on the lan- guage of the American Indians. Mrs. Dorsey was born in Hedgesville, W. Va., and_was w ploneer resident of Takoma Park, where her husband con- ducted services in Trinity Church and collected data for the Smithsonian In- stitution. She was a member of the Bishop's Guild, the Daughters of the King of the Church of the Ascension and chap- lain of the Martha Washington Chap- ter, D. A. R. Mrs. Dorsey was active in raising funds for the erection of the National Cathedral. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. James Herndon Lightfoot, and two granddaughters, Virginia Dorsey and Georglana Chapin Lightfoot.
