Sinclair Oil 1615 | : e BUYING IS BRISK IN FOREIGN BONDS Second-Grade and Specula- tive Issues Draw Interest in Today’s Session. BY GEORGE T. HUGHES. Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, September 3.—With only a few exceptions, activity in to- day's Bond market was confined to second grade and speculative issues.| Prices for the strictly high-grade group were not affected by the signs of greater demand on the money sup- ply for commercial purposes as re- vealed in the weekly statement of the Federal Reserve Bank, but, on the other hand, there was no buying in- terest. Elsewhere in the list some of the speculative rails made further gains and so did some of the higher-yielding forelgn issues. Among™ the former the favorites were Missouri-Kansas and Texas adjustments above 95, Mis- sourl Pacific general 4s, Chicago Great Western ds, Chicago and East- ern Illinois 5s, Wheeling and Lake Erie 4%s and for a time some of the Seaboard Air Line issues. For the most part gains in all these were fractional only. Buying was quite brisk in the for- elgn list. French Cities 6s were taken in volume at 89, a new 1926 high. City of Solssons 6s, usually in- active, were up a point from the preceding close. Maturity yields on talnable on the direct obligations of the French government. The fact that there is no callable provision con- nected with any of them also increases their attractiveness to certain classes of buyvers. Poland 8s were strong. Crossing 90, they were within a fr tion of the best previous price this year. City of Greater Prague 7ls equaled their previous high. Most of the Belgian issues did better, respond- ing to reports of progress toward stabilization and the probability of a new international loan late this yvear or_early next. Features among domestic bonds in- cluded Hudson and Manhattan re- funding 5s at 97, a point below their record high of last Spring, and Na- tional Dairy Products 6s, which ran up to 99 on a single string of trans- actions, equalling their previous high. Brooklyn Manhattan 6s were frac- tionally higher, along with the Hud- s were the leaders in their class. AR L A TEXAS OIL PRODUCTION. IWHEAT VALUES HOLD Rain in Canada and Steady Tone of Liverpool Market Cause Firmness Today. By the Associatel Press. CHICAGO, September 3.—Wheat prices developed firmness today after a wavering start. Rains In Canada and the relatively steady tone of the Liverpool market tended to uphold values here. Opening unchanged to 11 off, Chieago wheat quotations ral- lled to above yesterday's finish, with December leading the upturn. oats and provisions were corn starting at 'y to % stronger, subsequently gaining advance and further. Advices of unfavorable crop con- ditions in Europe recefved considerable notice among wheat traders. One re- port at hand said that practically the whole of Central Europe had suffered from adverse weather during ripen- ing and at harvest time. The 1926 viell in France is now estimated at only 253,000,000 bushels, as against 329,000,000 last year. With the Province of Alberta re- ported to be in the grip of one of the worst storms in 30 years, optimism as to rapid progress of harvest in Canada was a good deal tempered to- day. On the other hand. current re- ports continued to reflect confidence that the Canadian yield as a whole will be at least as good as expected. WHEAT— Low September . ...
