FONDAY, AUGUST 2, 1926. CATHERINE C. MEALY, CHOSEN MISS U. S. A., DIES Winner of Federal Service Beauty | Contest Succumbs to Compli- ocations After Operation. Miss Catherine C. Mealy of 34 U street, last year designated as the prettiest girl in the Federal service, died yesterday morning at Providence Hospital from complications, following an operation for appendicitis July 16. Misa Mealy was chosen “Miss U. 8. A" In the beauty contest, under au- spices of the District of Columbia Federation of Federal Employes’ Unions at Chevy Chase Lake, As victor in the contest Miss Mealy was given a trip to Florida. She was also known as an expert bowler. Death followed a second operation at Providence Hospital last Saturday, when efforts were made to relieve a condition which developed after she had gone home Tuesday apparently recovering from her operation. She was 25 years of age. Miss Mealy had been in the office of Undersecretary Winston and in the office of Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Dewey. She had recently left the Government employ, however, and was engaged in secretarial work. Funeral services will be held Wed- nesday morning at 8:30 at the home, to be followed by requiam mass sald by Rev. Michael Reardon at St. Mar- tin’s Church at 9 o'clock. Interment will be in Mouynt Olivet Cemetery. Miss Mealy is survived by her moth- er, Mrs. Catherine Mealy; two broth- ers, Joseph and Berchmans, and two sisters, Miss Francis Mealy and Mrs. Bernard Nolan. Jacob Feighene, 85 years old, died Wednesday at the residence of his| son, Charles J. Feighene, Berwyn, Md., after a long iliness. He had been a resident of Prince Georges County for 73 years, coming from Germany, and retired from the employ of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad 10 years ago, after 55 years' service. Father of New York Senator Is Reported Seriously Il ‘Word has been received here of the death at Dexter, Mich., of George Augustus Peters, 101 years old, uncle of Senator Copeland of New York. Senator Copeland had gone to Dexter several days ago to be with his father, Roscoe P.
