CLARK HEIRS WIN IN'WILL CONTEST Hury Holds Claims of Three Alleged Daughters Are Unfounded. By the .Associated Press. BUTTE, Mont., July 16.—Clalms of three women that they are daughters of the late Senator William Andrews Clark, and entitled to a share of his $47,000,000 estate, have been held un- founded by a district court jury here. The claimants—Effie Clark McWil- llams, Alma. E. Clark Hines of Clarks- ville, Mo., and Mrs. Addie L. Clark Miller of Denver, charged that Sena- tor Clark married Tabitha C. Brooks, their mother, in Missouri, in 1869, and deserted the family 10 years later to 80 to Montana. Mother Called by Defense. The defense claimed that the three ‘women were daughters of Willlam, * Anderson Clark, also of Missouri, who died here last April. In support 3 this claim they iatroduced the stimony of the widow of Willlam Anderson Clark, who declared the claimants are his daughters. She said she left her place as housekeeper in his home to follow him to Montana when he deserted his family in 1880. She also told of caring for the three women seeking & share in the estate when they were children. Answering other questions raised by the plaintiffs, the jury found that Senator Clark married Kate Stauffer and later Anna Lachappelle, and that the five children mentioned in the will were born of these unions, ‘Witnesses from all sections of the dountry testified during the course of the trial, which opened here July 1. They traced the movements of Sena- tore Clark from the time he entered Montana in the gold rush days to the time of his death. The jury reached a verdict after little more than an Your of deliberation. Own Children Upheld. The children of Senator wWhose relationship to him was upheld and who are named in his will, are C. De Brabant, Charles W. .Glark, Katherine L. Morgis and Wil- liam A. Clark, jr.. children of the Senator's first marriage, and Hugh- uette Marcelle Clark; child of his sec- ond marriage.
