Radiola 30, priced 3575, embodies practically all of the most recent devel- opments in radio. It is an eight tube super-heterodyne, with a power lond- speaker, And it operates entirely with- out batteries! It has distance reach. It has power for elear, undistorted music at the full volume of an orchestra. It tunes in but one station at a time, in th most crowded cities. And—plugged in on the house current—tuned with a single finger—it reduces all of radio toa single simple motion. Radiola 28—at noo—i- !he same eight tube uni-controlled super-hetero- dyne, with a cabinet built to hold dry batteries. It is at its best with RCA Loudspeaker 100, which can handle the full volume of the set. Or—for power—and no batteries— you can buy the RCA Loudspeaker 104, with the A.C. adapter. It is not only a power speaker, but has a current sup- ply device in its cabinet, to draw from the house current (A.C.) the power for both the speaker and the set. Radiola 26 isa portable six tube super- heterodyne—made to be carried out- of-doors. But its fine walnut finish is matched by an extra battery cabinet for indoor use, making this, too, an all-year Radiola—at 2225, t $165—an improved mpr,'-lw!erodym' with six tubes—the 1ast one a power Radiotron for clear, full volume. It is uni-controlled. Radiola 25, too, is a dry battery set that can be adapted for use 'on the A.C. house current with Loudspeaker 104, Radiola 20 resulted from research aimed at giving the finest possible per- formance and tone at a moderate price. Of its five tubes, one is a power tube, for quality and volume of tone. And the set is tuned with a single control—with wverniers for exact tuning on out-of-town stations. 8115, Radiola 111, two tube set priced 315 without accessories. Radiola I11-A, four tube set priced #35 without accessories. Part While a complete electrical educa- tion is not necessary to understand most of the discussions on radio theory and practice, an acquaintance with the terms used in some of the elementary relations of direct and al- ternating current phenomena is de- sirable. The three fundamental factors in an electrical circuit are voltage, cur- rent and resistance. Just as in hydralics we have a pressure which tends to cause a flow of electricity cor- responding to a pressure which tends to cause water to flow In a water system. We also have a rate of of flow of electricity which corresponds to the rate of flow of water in a system, and we have resistance to flow of electricity in a circuit because of the material and size of the wire or connectors which are used in the circuit_just as we have resistance to flow of water because of the use of pipes according to size and shape in A water system. In an electrical circuit the prea. sure is spoken of as the electromotive force or voltage which, when applied to g circuit, tends to cause a flow of current in the eircuit. Electromotive force is abbreviated ‘“emf,” but the symbol usually used in formulae is a capital “E,” although a capital is sometimes used. Symbols Used. The rate of flow of electricity is measured in terms of amperes, ab- breviated *“amp.” This corresponds to the number of gallons or quarts of liquid flowing past a given point per unit of time. The symbol which is used generally for this factor is a capital “L." The resistance which is offered to the flow of a current in a circuit by the wire, connectors and apparatus conneéted in the circuit is measured capital “R.” | A definite, unchangeable relation- ship exists between these three char- > *Ine Cardinala: talks Health talk . . 9:00—Des Moines: The Bankers' Life New York: Talk: Premier Male New York: WGBS String Trio and mo«nafi-‘. | et Thioago: Lecture musical b _hl Moodr ' Bible Instituf g feld: T oR. The values of the units were arrived in a very logical way. “A volt, the unit of electrical pres- that pressu which, when :‘;‘;im"m ‘a circuit whose resistance PR e ohm. produces a current flow e ampere. O omlariy an ampere i the rate of flow of electricity produced in a cir- cult whose resistance is one ohm by an electromotive force of one Volt. ‘Stated in other words, an ohm is the renistance ‘of a circuit in which an applied electromotive force of one Yoit will produce a current of one The energy spent per second in any part of the circuit by which electri- cal current is charged to heat or mechanieal work is figured in watts. A watt is obtained by multiplying the rate of current flow between any two points or in an entire circuit by the drop in potential between the points in question. The abbrevi t|ol| and symbol for watts is a small “w."
