Murphy, 47 years old. a park policeman. was held for the ac tion of the grand jury vesterday atan | inquest in which the jury found that Robert M. McCormick, ears old, a post office employe, came to his death early Tuesday afternoon the re sult of a blow or fall sustained dur- ing an altercation with Murphy. Testimor: Lewis and Thomas D). Bacon of the sixth precinct was to the effect that Murphy had admitted in their pres. ence that he had struck McCormick during an altercation early Tuesday morning while attempting to him out of the house at which they both roomed, 306 Sixth street. Mrs. Laura Hanson, proprietress of the rooming house. testified that she summoned Policeman Murphy for pro tection after McCormick, who had been drinkinz. had kicked and bruised her while on the stairway of the Eouse The altercation took place outside | the house later. it was testified, and afterward McCormick was seen sit ting on a bench. from which he latey fell and picked up from the side- walk Leo Walker of 404 Sixth street, who attempted to take him to Fis, Walker’s, room to spend the night. He was unable to get him into the house and left him in the vestibule, Walker testified, where he was found Tuesday morning about 6 o'clock. McCormick died from a fracture of the skull, hemorrhage and shock at Emergency Hospital the same after- noon. The parking which houses a public convenience station at Seventh street, according to Engineer Commissioner Bell, Is unsightly and Is an excellent debris catcher in its present condi- tion.
