REAL ESTATE NDEX DROPPE AR First Half of Month Had Rec- ord Production, But Last A moderate recession was regis- tered in real estate market activity during April, according to the index of that activity compiled monthly by the National Association of Real Es- tate Boards from official totals of transfers and conveyances recorded in 41 typical cities. The index for April went down to 173, asdrop of four points from the March index, and a figure three points below the index for April of last year. The hesitation marking market ac- tivity in real estate parallels in gen- , eral the tendency of the building in- { dustry during April. Though the first half of the month showed a daily volume of building contracts of record proportions, the second half registered a drop, ac- cording to statistics compiled by the F. W, Dodge Corporation. The total for the month was a fraction of 1 per cent greater than that of April of last vear. April failed to register the customary seasonal rise over March. Bullding permits for April in 484 cities, as shown by statistics col- lected by S. W. Straus & Co., showed a loss of 8 per cent from the record |LYON VILLAGE Washington’s Highly Restricted Community This English design house of seven rooms and bath on a large lot.
