BY J. C. ROYLI Srm; Dispateh to The Star. NEW YORK, May 14.—The speed | with which the handsome soda jerker has to work this Summer will have | much to do with the sum the Amer-, fean housewife will pay for sugar. Summer is the heaviest sugar.con- suming season. The amount nsed has Already been curtatled by the late Spring and cold weather in many sec- tions of the country. It is fairly safe to say, however, that the price will he higher than prevalled last year. 1 The cause for this, according to domestie producers. will he largely | artificial. Cuba has definitely pass- | ed legislation for restriction of ex- port€ by 10 per cent. This action is along the same lines employed for the raising of the price of ruhber. coffee And other raw products which hrought such severe opposition from of Com merce. Instead of having around 5.500.000 | tons of raw sugar to sell thiz year, Cuba will have ahout 4.950.000 tons. The production of the Philippines. | Hawali. Porto Ttico, Louisiana and the sugar beet fields of the West. which is counted on to act As A restraining in- fluence against effort of Cuban pro- ducars to advance prices, probably will he from 7 to 10 per cent less than last vear, Beet Crop Smaller. The domestic beet erop for 1425 and | 1926. which marketed as sugar in the first part of this vear. ran 7 per cent under the preceding vear. The out turn of the Philippines, Porto Rico and Hawall s estimated at 20 per cont less than last vear. Counting in the Cuban erop resiricted, the agare gate outside the ful) duty sugars will probably he 10 per cent less than in the preceding season. Sugar consumption is more veadily reaponsive than nearly any other toodatnff 1o price fluctuations. The normal gain in world consumption 8 AhouUt 4 per cent above lasi vear. when prices were low. the gain shot up ta 13 per eant. The presant ea =0on {s expected to show a gain of ahout 3 per cent United States consumption in 1928 was equivalent to 5.924.000 tone of raw sugar. A 5 per cent increase would bring this to 8220000 tens Production of domestic and duty-free heet and cane sugars is expected to hé about 2,495,000 tons, while the| 1025 carry-over was 475.000 tons. Taking this total from estimated re. quirements leaves 2.250.000 tons to in from Cuba. The Cuban export ahout 4. 570,000 tons, leaving tons available for export to countriés ot h than the United States aftér Cuba own requirements are satisfied. 100 Com P C war 2 Cons G Bal new o Conaol_Laund 2 Contl Bak 10 Contl Bak 1 Cont] Bak nfd. 10 Contl Tab Inc sas 5De For R € vte 1 Den Tram nw pf I Dosh Dre ¢ ¢ 2 Bk R Am A Durant 33,3253231355888:85 5 o aaai | | | lec 2322233,5252 4 2 n cor 1ac Tnvest Tne ng Pub Servire ink Pub Serv nf uh & EP uh Weite A Firestone T 7a 2 Foundation Fa A —oas33D0uads 25522338 7 Gillstte S R 2 Glen Alden Coal. 10 Goodvear T & AGrimes R & C 4 El & Tt vic Rason Cor A Int Coner Tnd 1% Johns-Manville 2016 Pow new 1Leh Val C cfs 1y Lin Omens Sh Gi 15 ¥id Weat Ttil 100 Mid W Tul ol 1§ Mid W T pr lien 1 Midvaie - 34 Mil Run nw pf iy Mise Riv Pow Bt 5 Mon Hud Pow 11, Nat Pow & I ntd 1 Nat Puh Sar'A. . 1 Nentune Mater 4 % XY Tal Co otd. % North 6 Pow . 18 Nor § PCA i3 Nor Sta P ¢ ptd. 18 Northe Pow n 1 Pac St1 Boiler T Pender D Groe B. iPenn P &L ptd 3 Penn Ofl Sen.... 1 Phila_Elec. 2 Pow Secur Corp. 1 Ren Mot Trk vte. 2 Reo Mot 00" Rickenbackar ‘Mo 2 Rosal Bak P of 1 Sav Sugar pi 5 St $1e °17 F 325255.53-3 sl I 2 Siem32-CieneR3mn S Ra w2 T v Ty ooy P53 B R RS DR S D R SRR SE S 3 i85S~ 2, PEirtirhe t e & Sie—30ulemp1IDD-n o0, 2w 9= 013B 3= DR me! 2 e e 5 RFSEEEE & » Sio-—3: i 5353225350 533558% SRR o =3 M20323 = e 323 - ERE SR ¥ Lol Son' P &L, prd. . 700 Sou P ‘& 1. wa '3 Sou Gal B # Sou Cal B wil Sou Citien THI.
