LATIN JOURNALISTS VISITING DETROIT Guests at Elaborate Dinner. Great Auto Plants to Be Inspected. BY WILLIAM ULLMAN. DETROIT, Mich, May 1.—Today the great continent in the South is looking upon the center of the world's automobile industry and another link in the chain of fellowsiip between Latin and Nordic America is being forged. Detroit last night unlocked its door of friendship and welcomed in no un- certain manner the party of Central and South American journalists who are here for a. visit of several days. The first number on the program of entertainment arranged for the visitors here became effective within an hour after their arrival last eve- ning, when they sat down to an elab- orate dinner t red to them in the big Book Cadillac Hotel by the De troit News. Today they are inspecting automo- blle plants, their itinerary calling for visits to the Paige-Jewett, Lincolnand Federal truck factol It is planned for them to see all the big plants be- fore leaving Arrive by Auto. The editors arrived here by auto mobile late yvesterday afterncon from Toledo, where their visit was char acterized as “the most important semi diplomatic affair since the of King Albert of Belgium after the World War. As to Smith’s taking over the responsi- bilities of the city of Detroit, Booth contented himself with compliment- ing the mayor on his courage. “Whether he has succeeded or not,” Booth concluded, T leave it to citizens to judge.” The mayor ¢ was not lacking in spirit. He veferred gracefully to the kindness of the gentleman whom a few years ago he called the “Duke of Cranbook,” and said it was a good sign that they could meet together for the good of the city. Mr. Smith then went on to addr the guests in Spanish. He w plauded heartily, though it w vious that his acquired Latin. At the end of it all, Booth remarked: “As I said before, Mayor Sn is a man of great courage. 1 - iy | WOULD HELP TOURISTS. Munich Mayor Sta Fight| Against Early Cafe Curfew.
