Part II. 1t is also well to keep in mind that the new power tubes, such as the UX- 112 and CX-112 for storage battery use and the UX-120 and CX-220 for dry cell use, operate with different values of grid bias and plate vditage than the UX-201A and UX-199 types. ‘While 4.5 volts negative bias is suf- ficient for ordinary plate voltages used in amplifier stages with UX-201A and UX-199 tubes, a negative voltage as high as 22,5 volts is required for best operation when a UX-199 tube is used in an ampilfier, while a negative volt- age of 9 volts is required with tubes of the UX-112 type. ' Higher Plate Voltages Needed. These power tubes also require much higher plate voltages. A plate voltage as high as 135 volts, with a negative bias of 22.5 volts, should be used with tubes of the UX-120 type, while least 135 volts, and preferably 15 volts, shoufd be used with tubes of the UX-112 type. With UX-112 tubes the negative bias for 135 volts, plate voltage should be 9 volts, while for 157 plate voltage a negative blas of 10.5 volts should be provided. These facts should be kept in mind when vou are thinking of substituting such tubes for your present oncs or of designing a circuit for use with these tubes. While these tubes can be used throughout. in a receiver, their great est field for usefulness is in the last audio frequency stage.
