A report on the condition of the streets has been prepared by the department for the Senate co_mmiuea on appropriations. It shows that there are 815615 square yards of street pavement in the District 30 or more years old. This represents the extent of the arrears in the resurfacing of obsolete pavements. Two stretches of pavement re- ferred to in the report were laid 59 vears ago ond have not been renewed since. They are Grant place between Ninth and Tenth streets, and De Sales street from Seventeenth street to Connecticut There are 431,116 square yards of pavement from 25 to 29 years old wi h need resurfacing, ac- cording to the report. ‘There also are 477,418 square yards be- tween 21 and 24 years old.
