60 PLAN JEFFERSON DAY OBSERVANCE Monticello Breakfast Por- trait Exhibit and Pageant to Be Held April 13. A Jefferson day observance on April 13. the anniversary of the birth of the author of the Declaration of Independ ence, has heen arranged for the Na tional Capital, in connection with the celebration this vear of the sesqui centennial of American independence The observance will open with a Mon ticello breakfast and will include a Jefferson dinner, a portrait exhibit and a pageant. The breakfast will be given at the Mayflower Hotel and will mark the close of three years of active work. |, under the direction of the Washing ton committee of the Thomas Jeffer- son Memorial Association, for the pre ervation of Monticello as a national shrine. The Washington commit‘ee, which is headed by Mrs. Rose Gou.er- neur Hoes. ha: ed approximately $36,000 in the National Capi Will Recall Famous Women. The breakfast will reproduce in faithful detail the old-fashioned late morning repast' of the old Virginia custom in homesteads as Monti cello. The hostess at each table is ex pected to invent some interesting his torical feature for her table, and when the chairman calls the roll each hostess will rise and formally an- nounce the name of her table, which is to be in honor of some distinguished American woman. One of the tables will be designated as the “gift table.” where will be seat- ed all persons aiding in restoring to Monticello the letters, documents, books and other widely scattered relics of the Jefferson home, the gifts to be formally presented and accepted by the chairman. Exh The second event of the day is to be an exhibit of silhouette portraits by AMrs. Minnigerode Andrews and Bruce Wallace-Cameron. in _the Thomas Jefferson room of the May- flower Hotel. The exhibit. which will be on display to the public from 2 until 10 p.m., will include a_number of silhouetre studies by Mrs. An drews of outstanding personalities in Washington lite du the past 30 vears. Mr. Wallace-Cameron, who will act as host at the exhibit, is now at work on a serles of small portraits of the world's great musicians. At the Jefferson dinner, to be given by prominent men of Washington at the Mayflower, at 8 o'clock, distin- guished speakers from many sections of the country will pay tribute to the great American statesman. Pageant by Mrs. Andrews. The other event on the Jefferson day program will be a presentation of the “Pageant of Thomas Jefferson.” The pageant, which was written by Mrs. Andrews, was first presented at a patriotic celebration at York, Pa.. on July 4, 1924. It was later given as a social event at the Lyric Theater in Baltimore on May 19 last. The pageant will be presented in the auditorium of Central High School under the auspices of the Community Center Department and directed by Marie Moore Forrest. Tickets for the pageant may be obtained by the pub- lic without charge at the Community Center Department in the klin Administration Building, Thirteenth and K streets. Ts Planned. .
