! (TES BENEFTS | 0F CD.OPERATIN Commission to Promote Cluser Relations Between Churches and Y. M. C. A. The Washington Y. M. C. A.'s co-op- eration with the churches and re- liglous activities generally in the Dis- trict is pointed out by Y. M. C. A. officials here as one of the best ex amples of the movement now being fostered by the counselling commis- sion of the Protestant churches of the United States of America to pro- mote such co.operation on a nation- wide scale. This commission, created as & result of an investigation by the international committee of the Y. C. A., is composed of roprmenuu\ of 18 Protestant communions, who ary *10 confer once a year with assoclation leeders on problems of relationship which are national in scope and which pertain to all denominations. Estimate of Local Work. 1t s estimated that during the last year the Washington Y. M. C. A.'s religlous work department reached more than 115,000 people through re- liglous meetings in the churches, at which speakers were supplied, or through religious meetings and classes conducted by the Y. M. C. A. In addl- tion, many of the religious organiza- tions in the District are indirectly or directly affillated with the Y. M. C. A. ‘The Organized Bible Class Association, for instance, composed of adult Bible classss of the District, ma.\nuh'\s its headquarters in the Y. M. C. and in promoted by the religious S e partment of the Y. M. C. A.. its execu- tive secretary being Page McK. Etchi- son, religio work director. The achool of religlous education of the Y. M. C. A. is affliated with the local Sunday school council of religious education, and was founded seven yoars ago at the express request of the council. The Christian Endeavor Unlon of the District maintains its headquarters at the Y. M. C. A. Supplies Ministers for Pulpits. Through its work of supplying men 16 fill the pulpits of the local churches on various -occasions, or to address thelr bible classes and Sunday schools, the Y. M. C. A. has created a distinc tlve fleld of service in Washington. it s pointed out. which is leading to closer co-operation with the churches at all times. Dr. John R. Mott. general secretary of the national council, said recently that “the better blending of the forces of our great communions with those of this child of the churches. the Y. M. C. A.. s of very great Importance, s0 that a %esult of our united im- pact upon the great areas of need and opportunity among the young men and boys of our nation and of the countries with which we are co-operat- ing we may achieve a larger result for Christ and the church and for their progress in the world. Tt has only been the creation of this coun- =elling commission that has made pos- sible th's most vital and essential {n- tegration of the Assoclation of the Churches.” —_— OTHER SERVICES. B. Y. P.
