By the Associated Press, NEW YORK, December 17.—Lionel Atwill and his wife, Elsie Mackay, are now playing a scene in real life that they often enacted on the stage to- gether. Mr. Atwill has brought suit for di- vorce against his wife, charging her with leaving him despite his pleas and with living with Max Montesole, an English_actor, in an uptown apart- ment. It was in the last act of “The Comedian,” in which the Atwills starred, that the wife leaves her hus- band as he seeks in vain to win her back. Montesole and aboard the liner Mrs. Atwill left amoa, which sailed Saturday from Boston for Liverpool, according to Atwill's counsel. Mr. At- will sought to prevent them leaving together by starting an allenation sult against the English actor, but failed when Montesole left the juris- diction of New York State. “The trouble has heen brewing for a long time,” Atwill said last night, as he charged he had found his wife and Montesole living in «n apartment us Mr. and Mrs. Mackay.” He &aid he had begged her to reconsider her tions and to return to him, but that she had refused. “I'am not emotional,” he said I am not going around carr revolver or any of that foolishness But a reconcllfation is out of the qu; tion now. The actor said he had been intro- duced to Montesole by his wife and had befriended him, giving him a lead- {ng part in a new play and entertain- ing him at his Long Island home. The ¥ was withdrawn before reach- Ing New York because of the domestic tangle. Mrs. Atwill, before she left for Eu- rope, denled the allegations of mlis- conduct and said her husband had re fused to agree to a separation and kept her at his home by threats of sgraceful’” charges She asks $350 o week alimony and $7.500 counsel fees. asserting that her band has an income of $50,000 a r. She said thit since separating from Mr. Atwill she has been forced to live on the bounty of frienc Mrs. Atwill has been leading woman in numerous productions and fre- quently played opposite her husband. | They were married in Chicago in 1920. GUN PLAY AVERTED IN JUAREZ CONTEST Clash Between Two Rival Factions | Over Mayoralty Brings out Police. the Associated Press. CHIHUAHUA CITY, cember 17.—A pistol fight between supporters of Alberto N. Almeida and Marcos M. Flores, candidates for mayor of Juares, was narrowly avert- ed by interference of police officers vesterday, when the factions clashed n the governor's palace here. No one was serfously injured. Almelda, who is a brother of Gov. Jesus A. Almeida, was recently de- Clared elected mayor in a recount by judges in Juarez, but the Flo- ristas have carried the contest to the State Chamber of Deputies. More than &0 supporters of Flores and 50 Almeida followers are here. Feeling runs high, and the authori- ties are watching to preve clashes. Mexico, De- Retired From Army. As a mat- ter of fact, at the instant shown at 1 1o lines of flux are be ing cut and the voltage and current is ero. That is the point at which the current changes direction, and the cle is not marked with 2 dot or cross. On either side of this position the lines of flux begin to be cut and the current flows in a dircction indi- cated by the dot (flowing toward the observer) and by the cross (flowing away from the observer). When the position of the wire loop shifts to that indicated by its passuge from “I" through "G to “H" on the upper leg and from “R" through “S" 15 “T" on the lower leg, the maximum lines of flux are being cut and the greatest flow of current takes plac The voltage at those points is at maximum. The reason why this is so can be better understood if we resort to an analogy. Let us tuke i ropoe consist ing of many strands of threads bunched parallel to each other in the same way that the lines of flux arranged all parallel to each other from north to south pole. If we run a knife through these strands in a direction parallel with the strands, we may split the strands apart, but none of them will be cut. 1If, however, we run a knife at right angles or across the rope we will cut the maximum number of threads for uny given dis tance of travel of the blade. If the knife is run at an angle, fewer strands will be cut.
