C., SERGT. HENDERSON SUDDENLY EXPIRES 'Marine Corps Officer, in Service 30 Years, Heart Disease Victim. First Sergt. James S. H. Hender- son, U. S. Marine Corps, veteran of the’ Spanish-American, World War and numerous other engagements dur- ing nearly 30 vears in the military ervice, died of heart disease near his residence, 242 Eleventh street north- st, Wednesday. He had just left his |home for the new Navy Building, | where he has been in charge of the Marine guard for several years, when he was stricken. He was 53 years old. Funeral services were copducted at the residence today at 1-o'clock. Rev. Alfred E. Barrows, pastor of Eastern Presbyterian Church, officiated. Falls Church Resident, 80, Was Civil War Veteran, Mason and ‘Well Known in D. C. Special Dispatch to The Star. FALLS CHURCH, Va, November 6.—Capt. James Willis Jones, Civil War veteran, who died suddenly Wednesday night at his home on Broad street, will be buried at Ar- lington Cemetery tomorrow after- noon, following funeral services at the home at 2 o'clock. Capt. Jones, who would have cele- brated his elghtieth birthday anniver- sary in January, has been in failing health for some time and suffered a heart attack about 10 days ago. He was born in Bowling Green, Ky., Jan- v . 1846, nd spent the early part of his life in Illinois, where he |enlisted in the §3d Volunteer Infan- |try_during the Civil War. He came to Washington from Iowa, and for 28 vears was a member of the Capital police force. During this time he met many prominent men and had a fund of interesting reminiscences.
