TOO STRONG FOR KES, BEER BURSTS IN CAR Scent Leads Sleuth to Freight Yard—Forty Packages Are Seized. Forty kegs of beer were seized by the police in a railroad car in the P., B. & W. freight yards vesterday afternoon at Fourteenth streets southwest. Lieut W. G. Fisher of the B. & O. railroad detective force was walking by the frefght car when he noticed the drip-drip-drip of some fluid spat- tering to the ground at the side of the car. He sniffed Smells like 1917, had the car opened. Inside were respectably quiet kegs and one keg in a very disgrace- ful state. It had become tipsy in the journey to Washington and had sim- ply blown up. It was frothing at the bunghole and providing the stream which had seeped through the ca floor to give Petective Fisher the clue. Detective Fisher summoned Capt and Water | | Md., he muttered, and | |in a local near beer Headley, Sergt. Burke, Precinct De- tective Howird Ogle and Policemen Friedburg and MacDuffie from the fourth precinct to handle the case. When they arrived they sent a sam- {ple to the revenue bureau for analysis. Ralph Emerson Twitchell, au thor, lawyer and publicist, died at Los Angeles, Calif., vesterday. He 66 vears old. Col. Twitchell wrote extensively in the fieid of history, his best known works including ~ “Spanish Archives of New Mexico,” “Leading Facts in New Mexican History” and “A His- tory of Old Santa Fe.” In accordance with his last ex pressed wishes, Col. Twitchell will be buried on the heights north of Santa Fe, where he sponsored the erection of a huge cross to the memory of Franciscan friars who were slain here by Pueblo Indian: He served as Assistant United States Attorney General, appointed the late President Harding, in charge of Indian mlgazlon in the Southwest.
