Bedell’s Factory, GA0 B Bh MW, W-W: BRIDE. —_—— ™ erless to prevent “desecration” of the most beautiful sections of Maryland and Virginia, those immediately sur- rounding the National Capital. The very vagueness of the wording of the application of the raflroad com- pany for right to operate under its charter, according to the committee, would have the effect of depreciating property in sections which may be traversed by the railroad, as the route has not been definitely laid out and cannot now be determined. Along the proposed belt line, which its sponsors declare would handle 20,000 freight cars a day, manufactur- ing establishments would be expected to spring up, menacing the value of home properties in the section through which the road passed. The protest sent today does not ask for a hearing by citizens of Montgom- ery and Prince Georges Countles, but Mr. Bride said a hearing will be asked in a supplementary petition. In ad- dition to the members of the commit- tee, Henry Thomas, president of the Lee Highway Association; C. F. Kin- | cheloe, its vice president; and W. W. Diehle, president of the Highland Park Citizens’ Assoclation of Arlington County, Va., attended the meeting last night. 400 at Meeting. The petition. follows: “To the Honorable the Public Service Commission of Maryland, Gentle- men: “A miss meeting of citizens and taxpayers of Montgomery County was held on Friday, August 7, 1925, at the Montgomery Country Club, Bethesda, Md., under the auspices of the Brad- ley Hills Community League, for the purpose of determining the sentiment of the community relative to the pro- posed freight railroad known as the W. & L. Belt Line and Terminal Co. “The meef whs large; about 400 representative citizens by count were present. The Belt Line interests were reprasented by Admiral Austin M. Knight, W. Edgar Leedy and their en- gineers. Mr. Leedy explained the proposition in detail and presented the views of the railroad adherents at length. A volley of questions was asked by various persons present, and a number of addresses on the sub ject were made by representative clt- izens. ‘After full consideration of the sub- ject the following authorized resolu- tion is hereby submitted: ‘“Whereas a petition has been filed with the Public Service Commission of Maryland seeking authority to con- struct and operate a railroad through the parts of Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties adjacent to the Dis- trict of Columbia; and Gives Dangerous Power. “Whereas in said petition the route and location of the proposed railroad is not clearly and exactly defined, but, on the other hand, is extremely vague and highly indefinite; and “Whereas, if granted, the asked-for license would empower this corpora- tion to locate its right of way in an undefined route not set out in its peti- tion for charter, but is subject to re- vision based upgn more detailed loca- tion studies and surveys which have not yet been completed, and, in fact, is apparently cloaked to mask the plans of the incorporators; and “Whereas the sald license would enable the sald corporation or its sub- sidiaries or associates to acquire ad- ditional ground for enterprises such as warehouses, stockyards, fertilizer Money-Saving SALE We Want Your Work snd You Need Our GARAGE Buy Now—Save TONEBRAKE . 820-112ST.,N.W. By the Associated Press. PLYMOUTH, VT., August 18.— President Coolidge lingered_today at his father’s home, apparently unde- cided as to when he will return to the Summer White House at Swampscott. Having devoted one day of his stay here to an ‘emergency conference with Secretary Mellon and Senator Smoot of Utah on the Belgian debt situation, he again dismissed affairs of Government from his mind and gave himself over to the recreation :fl'orded by the haunts he knew as a 0y. The President had one engagement in sight for the day—a motor trip with Mrs. Coolidge to Woodstock, to have luncheon at the home of Gov. Billings. The remainder of the day he planned to spend quietly with his 80-vear-old father. Taking advantage of another day of perfect weather, President and Mrs. Coolidge motored after breakfast to Ludlow.
