PLANS FOR LY 4 ON SPECAL LINES Celebration Program Out- lined by Community Center Department of Schools. All plans for the Independence day celebration in the Central High School auditorium July 4 have been com- pleted by the community center de- partment of the public schools through its executive committee. The program will be divided into two | parts, the first featuring especally the civic exercises, incltding a special concert by the Marine Band from § to 8:30, a patriotic message to the citizens of the District of Columbia assembled by Edgar C. der, chair- man, Community Center Council; the oath of citizenship to the new citizens, led by Commissioner Cuno H. Ru dolph: presentation of a copy of the Constitution of the United States to the new citizens assembled by Jesse C. Suter, president of the Federation of Citizens’' Associations of the Dis trict of Columbfa, the singing of “America” by all assembled, led by Rollin Bond. Features of Part 2. Part 2, beginning promptly at 9 ©o'clock, will feature historical marches and tableaux in commemoration of In dependence day, including the march . with participants in colonial cogtume, and music by the Marine Band: pantomimic scenes of colonial history, being Indian frontier raid in 1775; signing ef the Declara- tion of Independenc Jnter at Val lev Forge, Benjfamin Franklin at the court of Louis and inauguration ©of Gen. Washington as President, New York, April 30, 1789, followed by the flag march of today, to be barticipated in by any citizen who Wishes to follow the flag, led by the District of Columbia (Mrs. Maud How- ell Smith), in honor of a huge Ameri- can flag, borne by 60 voung women of the District; “The Star Spangled Ban- ‘mer.".plaved by the Marine Band, and concluding with a display of fireworks lasting over 30 minutes. A limited section of seats will be reserved for special guests of honor, but the big stadium s open to the public and 5,000 seats are available for this evening's celebration of De- fense day. Dickson, ven- dor of a governmenf liquor store here, was awarded $6,000 dagames yesterday in his libel action against the Curtis Publishing Co. of Philadelphia and A. B. Mac- Donald of Kansas Cit Dickson’s action was based on a story written by ‘MacDonald and published in the Ladies’ Home Journal in June, 1924, to the effect that Mac- Donald had seen children who were forced to stand on tiptoes to reach top of the counter, being served In the Hastings street liquor store. In addition, the writer was sald to have credited Vancouver with hav- ingfl 225 bootlegging establishments, in which thousands of people were drunk the night of his investigations in December, 1923.
