By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, June 12— Chicago's “airplane baby” made its ap- pearance here yesterday. It has “heavenly blue” eyes and is a girl and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Metzger of Des Moines, Towa. Doctors decided at Des Moines that a Caesarean operation was nec- essary within a few hours if the moth- er’s life was to be saved. Train sched- ules were found to be too slow and an airplane was chartered and Mrs. Metzger, accompanied by her sister, | } left Des Moines at 2 o'clock Wed- nesday afternoon, arriving at the Maywood Flying Field here at 5:30 oelock. She was rushed to a hospital and at 6:45 o'clock an operation was per- formed. “The trip by airplane did not have the least ill effect on either mother | | or child,” Dr. Benjamin Breakstone said last night. AIR LINE FOR BUSINESS SOON TO BE ESTABLISHED Detroit Flying Club Plans Freight, Passenger and Mail Service Within Two Weeks. By the Associated Press. DETROIT, June 12.—Aerial freight, passenger and mail service between Detroit and Chicago, Cleveland and Dayton, will be started within - two weeks, George Willens, president of the Detroit Flying Club, announced last night. At the same time Willens announced the formation of Detroit Afrways, Inc., and the purchase of five airships by the corporation. It was announced that preliminary plans call for one trip daily between Detroit and the other three cities. A request for carrying of mail will also be made by the company under the terms of the Kelly bill, which authorizes the letting of such con- tracts to private companles, it was 1d. ‘Willens said that, while organiza- tion plans were not entirely complete, capital and airships had been obtained.
