SAVING 1S PLANNED N UBBER TRAE United States Industry Also to Look to Dutch in Fight on British. By the Associated Press, AKRON, Ohlo, June 12.—Definite steps to break the British monopoly on crude rubber, which has resulted in boosting the ‘price of tires, were taken vesterday by the Rubber As- soclation of America, Inc. Standardization of all rubber pr ucts, particularly baloon tire _siz postponing taking orders for Spri dating as temporary relief measures, and investment of American capital with Dutch rubber growers as a per- manent relief is the general plan. Following a meeting of the associa- tion which includes most of the largest rubber manufacturers on this continent & statement was issued which sald that: “The seriousness of the situation represented by the pre- vailing high price of crude rubber and the determination on the part of the rubber goods manufacturing industry to do everything possible to protect the interests of the American consum- ing public, was indicated by the fact that the directors of -the Rubber As- sociation of America, ‘Inc., met in Ak- ron to discuss remedial measures.'y Calls for Vigorous Action. “A careful survey of the situation indicated that vigorous action along the line of conservation practices can be taken without adversely affecting service to the public,” it added. “Definite action wes taken looking to the reduction of excessive inven- torles now belng carried by manu- facturers and dealers; first, by sub- stantial reduction in the number of types and sizes of tires, fogtwear and mechanical goods; second, by the abandonment of all interchangeable balloon tire sizes; third, the elimina- tion of all second quality lines of tires; fourth, postponing for five months soliciting _ of orders for Spring dating, no shipments on such rders to be made before 1926.” “'he decision of the association to foster a_campaign for increased rub- ber production in the Island of Java and other Dutch possessions followed refusal of the British to rescind or modify the Stevenson restriction act which s blamegq, for forcing the price of rubber from 17 to 78 cents a pound within a vear.
