NEW YORK, June 10.—Plans for a consolidation of the Glen Alden Coal Co. and the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Coal Co., the operating and sales organization for the an- thracite properties formerly held by the Lackawanna Railroad, were an- nounced today. Combined assets of the two companies &pproximate $100,- 000,000, The merger will be effected by an increase in the Glen Alden Coal Co.'s capital stock from 846,000 to 1,168,693 shares, and an exchange of one share of the new issue for each share of the Lackawanna company's outstand- ing capital stock A special meeting of Glen Alden stockholders has been called for Au-| gust 10 to approve the increase in cap- italization. Upon segregation of the Lackawanna Railroad's coal holdings in 1921, the Glen Alden company ac- quired ‘the property in exchange for $60,000,000 of its bonds. Subsequent- 1y ‘it absorbed the Diamond Anthra- cite Coal Co. Organized in 1866, the company later was bought by the Lackawanna Railroad and, after its separation from the carrier, became one of the country’s largest anthracite producers. Its mines are said to con- tain 400,000,000 tons of unmined coal. The Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Coal Co, was formed as a selling agency for the railroad’s coal output in 1909, and has continued to act in the same capacity for the.Glen Alden. ‘Wisconsin Bans Oleo. CLAND, June 10.—Figures given out at yesterday's session of the elghteenth annual convention of the National Association of Building Owners and Managess show that more than one-tenth of America rides in elevators of office buildings each day. It was estimated that 14,000,000 eleva- tor passengers are carried each day in the principal cities of America. Some of the features brought out in reports ~were improved elevators which permit skyscrapers to obtain a height of 60 stories, recording ther- mometers which keep accurate check in the boilerroom on the temperature at various other places in the build- ing, and outside sprinkler systems to protect against external fire hazards. Landing space for airplanes and the largest of dirigibles may yet grace the roofs of tall office buildings, in the opinion of L. Clydesdale Cushman, New York structural engineer. Monu- mental buildings might easily bear landing platforms that in time un- doubtedly will become just as es- sentfal to the growth of large cities as is the solution of its vehicular traffic problem, he said. Speaking before the apartment house section, Chester Snow, Washington, D. C., said persons buying apartment buildings as investments are confront- ed with a far more complicated prob- lem than that of the speculator, be- cause no matter how far advanced in | = design today, the building will in 10 years be somewhat behind the times.
