Adventures of No. When a fellow has inflicted his views upon the helpless multitude for month after month there is a le- gitimate curfosity to know something about him apart from what his views disclose. So M. J. Moor, a handwrit- ing diagnostician, who reads charac- ter from chirography, expresscd a desire to put me under the micro- scope. I was asked to submit a specimen of penmanship. The re- sult was an analysis that was dis- concertingly true to life. It was flat- tering in spots, but brutally authentic in most respects. It was submitted with this gracious letter: I am sending you herewith your pen portrait. 1 hope you go on the air toright in all your fighting togs. We like you when you swell up in righteous Indignation. I hope you recognize yourself as I see you in your graceful, strong, vigorous seript. (Editor please insert blushes) It is the pictare of one who fights, not against but for humanity. Writing Is, accord- ing to graphology, a ‘“gesture of the mind.” If that is true, you have some good, strong gestures. s My adventures on the air are par- ticularly thrilling—I mean the actual talks on political events—because of the character of my local Washing- ton radlo audlence. For tulks of that kind it is fncomparably the most im- portant audience in the country. One of the most interesting phases of radio work for the amateur is the designing of his own circuits and ap- paratus. It is a simple enough matter to take a circuit that has been designed by some one else, use all the con- stants that he specifies and build the set exactly according to his specifi- cations, but a great deal more satis- faction can be obtained by doing all the design work yourself. The fundamental relations which govern the design of radio apparatus }and circuits are not very difficult to | master; not nearly as hard as some fans believe them to be. Any radio circuit can be resolved into ter of Inductance, capacity and resistance, and the various ele- ments of a circuit can be calculated very easily from the data which Is usually available without going to unnecessary expense in the way of { costly testing instruments. The most elementary relationship in radio circuits, yet one of the most important ones, Is that which exsts between the elements of voltage, amperage and resistance in a circuit. This relationship is governed by a It is usually rather difficult to re- member the various formulae for the different elements such as resistance, voltage and amperage so that the most simple method of getting.them is to remember the fundamental re- lationship and evolve the others quickly as they become necessary If you remembier the formula as E equals IR the relationship is very easy because the symbols follow each other in alphabetical order. It is then an easy matter to get any of the other constants such as T or R by a simple process of dividing both sides of the equation by the un- desired constant. If you want the formula in terms of resistance, R, we divide both sides by T and get E divided by I equals R. If we want the formula in terms of I, we divide both stdes by R and get E divided by R equals | To get correct results you should always remember that the quantities must always be in terms of volts, amperes and ohms. In some cases the quantities are not given in those terms. You may find for instance that insteaud of ohms, megohms are used. That instead of amperes, the constant is given in terms of milllam- peres, or micro amperes, and that in- stead of volts that constant is given in Aok L. S.
