20,000 N PARADE T0 HONOR FASCISHi Sixth Birthday Anniversary of Organization Occasion of Rejoicing in Rome. By the Associated Press. ROME, March 23.—The sixth birth- day anniversary of Fascism was cele- brated yesterday by a great mass meeting and a parade of more than 20,000 black shirts through the Corso Umberto. The big moment was when Premier Mussolini made his first public appearance since the begin- ning of his lliness and delivered a short address to the wildly enthusi- astic crowd estimated at 30.000. Muxxolini Greeted by Ovation. As the bands played and thousands of uniformed Fascisti with banners aund pennants flying sang and cheered, and a squadron of five airplanes flew overhead, Mussoli, wearing the black shirt and showing none of the effects of his filness, appeared on the baicony of Chigi Palace. Jutting out signif- fcantly In the premier's short talk was the ‘phrase, “What 1 want to say to vou is that it is Spring now, and now the fun begins.” After the first ovation had ceased, Mussolini said 1 cannot resist the desire of let- ting you hear my voice on this oc- casion. 1 do not know whether It Wwill please you. (Cries of approval.) My infirmity has not taken away my voice. My appearance on this bal- destroys the paper castle of falsehood and ridiculous rumors. “My appearance here marks for me and for you an integral and total resumption of Fascist action against everybody. Will you follow me?" Deputy Farinacel, secretary gen- eral of the Fascisti, after the resto- Tation of comparative calm, remarked to the great throng that the whole worid was watching them. The premier did not want them to avail themselves today of the celebration to create incidents, and he urged- the crowds to return quietly to their homes and headquarters. $3,900,000 FUND SOUGHT FOR NEW YORK MUSEUM of Jane Smith (Continued from Yesterda Mr. Ember's look was terrifying, but Jane was not terrificd. As she dropped the recelver something hap- pened to her which she did not under- stand. Within the last half-hour she had felt an extremity of fear and sud- den anguish, violent relief, and again intensest fear and suspense. From this moment none of these things came near her. She moved among them, but they did not touch her at all. The thing was like a play in which she had her part duly written and rehearsed. There was no sense of responsibility, only a stage upon Which she must play her part, and “he knew her part very well. She did not have to think, or ptan or contrive. | She knew what to do, and how and when to do it. KFrom the moment that she dropped the receiver at the telephone she never faltered for an instant. Ember looked at her with a,\vli which saw every telltale stain upon her dress and hands. The something in his gaze which should have been frightening became intensified. “Lady Heritage wants you in the stud. he said. Jane knew very well that he said the study because the study was next to the door in the paneling. If she refused to go, he would stun her or shoot her here. She did not refuse, and walked down the corridor by his side in silence. They crossed the hall, and Ember kept between her and the stalrs Jane walked meekly beside him with downcast eyes until he passed ahead of her to gpen the study door. In that moment she turned on her heel, sprang for the stairs and raced up them, running s she had never run in her life. CHAPTER XXVIII, Anthony Luttrell's distaste for -his errand had certainly not lessened during the long drive from town. He stood now on his own doorstep facing a strange butler and heard a formal ‘Not at home” In response to his inquiry for Lady Heritage. “And Miss Molloy?" he asked. “Not at home,” repeated Blotson. If this was a reprieve it was an unwelcome one. Anthony would very much have preferred to get the thing over. “I will wait,” he said briefly, and walked past Blotson into the hall. “I am Mr. Luttrell,” he explained, and Blotson’s resentment diminished very slightly. After a moment's hesi- | tation he threw open the study door and ushered Aathony into the room. “If Lady Herltage is in the house she will see me,” sald Anthony., “If she is out 1 should like to see Miss Molloy, or, failing her, Mr. Ember.” He walked to the window and stood there looking out until Blotson re- turned “Lady Heritage is out, sir, and Miss Molloy is out. Mr. Ember was in just now, but he must have stepped out again, “L will wait,” said Anthony for the second time. When Blotson had gone he stood quite still, following out a somewhat uneasy train of thought. As the minutes passed, uneasines merged into anxiety. Jane ran the whole way to the walled garden. Once inside its door she made herself walk in order to get her breath When she came into the potting-shed she know just what she was going to do, and set about doing it in a quiet, businesslike way. From a stack of vots she took about half a dozen, broke all but two of them, and gathered the gherds into the lap of her dress. She put the two unbroken pots on the top of the sherds. Then she took a sharp pruning knife from the shelf, opened the trapdoor and went down the steps. As soon as she came into the main corridor: she began to put down the broken shreds, taking care to make no mnoise. She laid a trail of them up to the laboratory turning and then all along the turning itself, aisposing them in the middie of the falrway was taking no chances.
