34 FOUR ORCHESTRAS ON WRG TONIGHT Two in Philadelphia, Two in Washington Will Provide Dinner Dance Program. Four orchestras, two playing in Philadelphia and two in Washington, will provide the dinner and dance muslc for the program to be broad- cast tonight at WRC. The dance portion of the program, will be divided by Sidney Seiden- mann's Hotel Shoreham Orchestra and the Benjamin Franklin Hotel Orches- tra of Philadelphia. The latter con- cert will be relayed by wire to WRC. The Dance portion of the program, heginning at 10 o'clock, will be shared by Vincent Lopez's Hotel Mayflower Orchestra and Paul Specht's Cafe Pandora Orchestra of Philadelphia Both the Franklin Hotel and the Cafe Pandora concerts will be broadcast jointly with WJY, New York. At 8:30 o'clock WRC will present, in conjunction with stations WJZ, New York, and WGY, Schenectady, the first of a series of special radio programs arranged by the concert director of the New York Wanamaker Audi- torium. Tonight's Wanamaker con- cert will mark the return to the radio audience of Charles M. Courboin us Belgian-American organist, formerly of the Antwerp Cathedral, who has just completed a tour of the United States during which he played nearly 80 organ recitals. Like his col- cague, Marcel Dupre, Courboin has made & special study of organ radio playing, with the result that his con- certs are transmitted with unusual clearness. Courboin in his recital to- night will be assisted by an orchestra ensemble of 23 instruments, chosen trom the American Orchestral Society, under the direction of Cesare Sodero. Some Technical Talks. The studlo features of WRC's pro- gram include a group of dialect stories by Alfred Falconer, frequent performer from WRC's microphone; a recital by Catherine Spotswood, dra- matic soprano, George F. Ross at the piano, and talks by Dr. S. A. Rohwer of the Bureau of Entotmology, De- partment of Agriculture, on “How Some Wasp e” and by Col. C. O. Sherrill, officer in charge of public buildings and grounds, o The Arlington Memorial Bridge.” Col. Sherrill will speak under the auspices of the American Automobile Associa- tion and Dr. Rohwer's talk will be given in co-operation with the Smith- sonian Institution. The mounting screws holding the horse shoe magnet in place should be tightened. Remove any dirt or particles of steel that may be collecting on pole pleces. The diaphragm should be inspected to as- certain if it has become bent, and if %0, it should be replaced with a new one The cord screws holding the telephone tips should be tightened, but not removed or reversed, as this will disturb the polarity of the unit, affecting signals. If the diaphragm has become weakened and touches the pole pieces it should be turned over on its reverse side, which will correct the trouble. TIRE CONCERN BANKRUPT. Squashing Oscillations—Part 11, The Neutrodyne circuit is another | one of the circuits in which an effort has been made to take advantage of the desirabllity of grid and plate circuits tuned in resonance for maxi- mum amplification without the at- tendant undesirable chacacteristio of oscillations to spofl the high ampli- fication possible when resonant cir- cuits are used. This method hits at the source of oscillations by eliminating the ef- fects of interelectrode capacity in the tube. i It makes It practically impossible for a cirouit to oscillate by intro- ducing an equal and opposite effect G in the form of a very low capaoity gondenser in series with a coil con- nected in series with this additional small condenser. The connections are such that the positive feedback through the ca- paocity between grid and plate ig neu- tralized by the auxiliary arrange- ment of condenser and coil. The amplified energy in the plate circuit is thus prevented from being fed | back into the grid circuit and the tendency toward oscillation in the radio frequency stages is eliminated. The last I heard was an orchestra selection, “Me and My Boy Friend.” 1 could not get the station after 2:55 am.
