RADIO CONNECTION HELD EXPERIMENTAL Talking Machine Manufacturers Will Sever Relations With Broadcasting in Merch. By Consolidated Press. Talking machine manufacturers still cousider their relations with radio ‘broadcasting as experimental. Tt was learned today that the Victor company, which opened the new year with a compromise with the microphone and offered its most famous artists free to broadcast listeners, has made plans for only three more presentations. These concerts will be concluded the middle of March. its bi-monthly programs after that date will depend entirely on the appearance of the sales books at the end of the first three months of the current year. The Brunswick-Balke-Collender Co which took the lead in the broad casting field, is feeling its way in a atmilar manner, although a little more confidently. The' first of the | muale memeory contests, a novelty ar- ranged by the Brunswick people for broadcasting in five cities, ended last night. A second contest will be con- ducted throughout March with the samo prizes, offered to_the listeners who are able to name’ correctly the 48 selections and their perforniing artists. But here also the future is in- asfinite. Neither the Victor company nor the Brunswick company has any doubts that its concerts have been appre- ciated. More than 100,000 letters have been received at the Brunswick offices and some 75,000 congratulatory notes were sent to the Victor com- pany following the first of its presen- tations. These letters, however, rank sec- ond in importance to the salesbooks in determining just how far the radlo-phonograph tie-up will be cartied. RADIO’S BEST OFFERINGS TONIGHT.
