SOCIETY President and Mrs. Coolidge Receive : Cordial Greeting at State L RESIDENT and Mrs. Coolidge were honor guests last night at the reception held at the City Club by the Massachu- setts State Soclety. State pride was shown in its most impor- tant phase, a special box being ar- ranged for the Chief Executive and the first lady of the land. Almost im- meodiately after their arrival in the ballroom, » however, they took their places before the Marine Band Or- chestra stand, and the reception of members opened. Mrs. Coolidge wore & levely draped gown of ruby red velvet, the panel-shaped train at the back being separated into two nar- row scarfs, with silver cloth showing between. Mrs. William M. Butler, who was also a conspicuous guest, wore a mauve color chiffon brocaded in velvet, there belng a simple ar- rangement of drapery at one side, while a deep band of white fur bor- dered the bottom of the skirt. She wore a scarf in Persion color and design. Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Stearns were also in the guest box, Mrs. Stearns wearing a charming draped gown of black chiffon brocaded in wvelvet. Cards have been fssued from the ‘White House for the last of the recep- tions of state, President and Mrs. Coolidge receiving Thursday evening, February 19, at 9 o'clock. The Secretary of State and Mrs. Hughes will go to New York tomor- row to remain until Saturday morn- ing.
