Cash in the sum of $38,575,819.60 has been realized to date on the pledges to the $75,000,000 Southern Baptist campaign, nouncement from at Nashville, Tenn The expenses of the headquarters’ office in Nashville in the original pro- jection of the campaign and its con- duct for five vears since that time amounted to $427,875.11. Of this sum, $302,580.84 was incurred in the original projection of the campaign and the securing of the pledges, the expense for the remaining five years according to an- the headquarters being only $125, Thus it will be seen that the expense of projecting the campalgn from general head- quarters and conducting the general South-wide program of information and Inspiration for five years Was considerably less than 1 per cent of the total cash collected. Estimate of Expenses. The total expenses of the State of- fices in the projection and the col- lection of the funds, added to the st of operating the general South- e office at Nashville, will amount to considerably less than 4 per cent of the total sum raised. Girls’ Friendly Group at Trans- figuration Plans Fete. The Girls' Friendly Society of the Qhurch of the Transfiguration, at Fourteenth and Gallatin_streets, will glve an entertainment Monday eve- ning. in the parish hall, to celebrate the formation of an independent par- ish from the former Chapel of the Transfiguration, which was effected by an act of the diocesan convention Thursday. Transfiguration was for- merly a chapel of Rock Creek parish. The friends of the soclety are in- vited to hear Mrs. E. M. Phillips, boy impersonator, and a program of music by members of the society. Trans- figuration branch is one of the newest branches of the Girls' Friendly So- clety in the diocese, and this Is its first large entertainment. BIBLE CLASS FORMED. Dr. John W. Laird to Teach at New York Avenue Church. A university men's Bible class was organized last Sunday at the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church with Dr. John W. Laird, recently minister of the University Church at New Haven, Conn., teacher. Dr. Laird was for many years president of Alblon College, Michigan. This Bible study group is open to all under graduate and post graduate university men in the city to study more Intimately the relation of the Bible and of the New Testament to the conditions of modern life. The class meets in the church for the opening exercises, but the discussions are held in the amphitheater of the George Washington Medical School on H street.
