The Development of Multitude Reflex reults Part 115 The first on the iist of reflex cir- cuits is naturally the one-tube re- flex circuit which uses a eingle tube as a radio and audio frequency ampli- fier and uses a crystal as a detector. This circuit is practically the equi alent of @ two-tube circuit having a stage of straight radio frequency amplification; u crystal detector and a stage of straight audio frequency amplification. The functional diagram of the two- tube receiver is shown in Figure RFEAMP DET Fig Reproduction Prohibited. tube acts as an audlo frequency amp- lifler. Since the collector or antenna sys- tem is the same for both systems, this otherwise necessary part of the circuit has not been shown. In Figure 2, the reflex equivalent of the two-tube clrcuit s shown. This illustrates what takes place In a one tube reflex circuit. The signal first passes through the the radio fre quency carrier wave, then it passes through the detector where it |Is stripped from the carrfer and reduced an audlo frequency current and lastly it is passed through the tube again as an audio frequency current to be amplified at audio frequency. Figure 4 shows the wiring diagram of the one-tube reflex circuit showing the details of connections by means of which the functions outlined in the functional diagram, Figure 2, are accomplished. The tube acts first as a radio fré- quency amplifier in much the same manner as the radio frequency ampli- fier tube of the circuit shown in Fig- ure 3. The crystal detector circuit of Figure 1 is similar to the crystal de- tector circuit of Figure 3. But now there is a difference between the cir- cuits. Instead of another tube for amplifying the audio frequency cur- rents in the detector clrcuits, the ay- dio frequency current cnergy from the crystal detector circuit is trans- ferred not into the grid circuit of another tube but is introduced into the grid circult of the same tube that acts as a radio frequency amplifier, It is this reflexing or turning back of the signal into the grid circylt of the tube which gives thé circuit its name, namely the reflex circuit. charger Balkite is more than a battery .
