RADIO INJUNCTION GIVEN DE FORREST Cpurt Forbids Manufacture and Sale of Tube by Radio Corporation. By the Associated Press. WILMINGTON, Del Judge Hugh M. Morris, in the United States district cour has granted a Dreliminary injunction to the De For- rest Radio Telephone & Telegraph Co. against the Radlo Corporation of America, it was learned last night. The plaintiffs alleged that the audion tubes eold by the defendant company infringed on their watent rights. The plaintifft had ulso sought am) injunction gainst the Westinghouse | Electric & Manufacturing Co., but this was denied. The court, in hand- ing down the decision, enjoined the #ale of tubes as manufactured by the | Westinghouse Lamp Co., « subsidiary | of the Westinghouse Electric & Manu- | facturing Co While the amount volved did not enter mony, it was said, this phase of the cage would be gone into at another hearing, the date for which has Leen set ; It was alleged radio receiving sands of homes the conspirac: 2 February 6—| of money in- into the testi- not | in the suits Xh.:!‘ _equipment in thou i= involved, and that existed to further the | tribution of radio eauipment in £7inging on the De Forrest patents betwecn the défendant company and | 1he Westinghouve Electric & Manu-| Stei Long-Distance Crystal Set The popularity of this sct n the fact that one hundred and sixteen dealers has praven itself are now carrying Steinite equipment in stock We solicit your patronage on this particular be- cause we believe it to be one of the finest scts that can be found and one that will prove a lasting pleasure all the year round. set, ti The above set fully equip- ped with phones ~$9.95 and antenna equip- ment Continental Electric Supply Co. WANTS ROXIE “AS IS.” Writer Objects to Any Effort to Cramp His Style. To the Editor of The Star: Please allow me to enter my prog test against the criticism of “Roxie™ in Tuesday's Star. T am not a young woman, but one who celebrated my 45th wedding anniversary last week: nevertheless I am not tco old to like Roxie as he is—or rather as he was before last Sunday night's program. It could easily be seen there was a difference and not for the better. No one can do his best when handicapped by criticism. We all like him best in his natural role, and hope that tha| ban on his own particular style of | entertaining us—and which we enjoy s0 much—will soon be lfted. His critics should consider the great good he has done, and the joy he has given to our “boys” in the past few months rather than insist upon too much dignity in our Sunday night pro- grams, that we ail look forward to. We have first-class announcers and any of them, nor do 1 object to any of the many dignifled programs, for they all fill thelr particular sphere—but please lease our Roxie alone; we like him just as he is. The Development of Multitude Reflex reults Part 115 The first on the iist of reflex cir- cuits is naturally the one-tube re- flex circuit which uses a eingle tube as a radio and audio frequency ampli- fier and uses a crystal as a detector. This circuit is practically the equi alent of @ two-tube circuit having a stage of straight radio frequency amplification; u crystal detector and a stage of straight audio frequency amplification. The functional diagram of the two- tube receiver is shown in Figure RFEAMP DET Fig Reproduction Prohibited. tube acts as an audlo frequency amp- lifler. Since the collector or antenna sys- tem is the same for both systems, this otherwise necessary part of the circuit has not been shown. Figure 3 shows the wiring diagram of the two-tube straight amplifier circuit ghowing the details of the connections by means of which the functions shown by the functional |diagram of Figure 1 are accomplished. | A tube is used as a radio frequency amplifier; a crystal detector is used ! to rectify the incoming wave fed to AFEAMP REE 1 REZAFAMP N i i As shown, the signal, depicted by the line marked with arrowheads, passes first through the radlo frequency stage amplifier tube, then through the crystal detector and then through the audio frequency amplifier tube. In Figure 2, the reflex equivalent of the two-tube clrcuit s shown. This illustrates what takes place In a one tube reflex circuit. The signal first passes through the the radio fre quency carrier wave, then it passes through the detector where it |Is stripped from the carrfer and reduced an audlo frequency current and lastly it is passed through the tube again as an audio frequency current to be amplified at audio frequency. Jn the two-tube straight amplifica- { tion circult, the reproducer or phone part of the circuit {s assoclated with the second or audio frequency tube. In the reflex eircuft the reproducer is associated with the audio frequen- cy function of the tube so that while it is common to both radio and audio frequency part of the circuit, the use of a phone condenser by-passes the radio frequency compenent of the plate cireuit, leaving It to be affected only by the audlo frequency com- ponent of the plate current when the More than a battery charger. 3ALKITE “B” Gives resulwun, “B" batteries. Figure 4 shows the wiring diagram of the one-tube reflex circuit showing the details of connections by means of which the functions outlined in the functional diagram, Figure 2, are accomplished. The tube acts first as a radio fré- quency amplifier in much the same manner as the radio frequency ampli- fier tube of the circuit shown in Fig- ure 3. The crystal detector circuit of Figure 1 is similar to the crystal de- tector circuit of Figure 3. But now there is a difference between the cir- cuits. Instead of another tube for amplifying the audio frequency cur- rents in the detector clrcuits, the ay- dio frequency current cnergy from the crystal detector circuit is trans- ferred not into the grid circuit of another tube but is introduced into the grid circult of the same tube that acts as a radio frequency amplifier, It is this reflexing or turning back of the signal into the grid circylt of the tube which gives thé circuit its name, namely the reflex circuit. charger Balkite is more than a battery .
