- EPISGOPAL CHURCH PLANS CONVENTION Annual Assembly of Wash- ington Diocese at St. Al- ban’s Wednesday. The annual convention of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Washington will meet in St. Alban's Church next Wednesday at 10 a.m. The convention is composed of the Bishop of Washington as president, of all the Episcopal clergymen offi- cially connected with the dlocese, and of as many lay delegates from every regularly established parish as there are ministers attached to the parish The convention is the legislativ body of the dlocese and Its time is devoted to receiving reports from its various boards and committees and to deciding the further action case, Innovation Is Announced. An fnnovation this year consists in having the bishop read his annual ad- dress at a special meeting to be held in the Church of the Epiphany Tues- day evening, Instead of on the first morning of the convention. This will allow the bishop to reach a larger audience and at the same time per- mit the delegates to nsider and di- gest his recommendations before they are called on to vote. Furthermore, it will shorten the proceedings of the convention. There will be a service of holy communion in Bethlehem Chapel of the National Cathedral Wednesduy morning at 8 o'clock, following which breakfast will be served in S. Alban's Guild will assemble at 10 am. At the of the convention Wednesday, about 5 o'clock, the dele- gates will be received by Bishop and Mrs. Freeman at the bishop's house. At 6:30 o'clock the delegates will be *he guests of the bishop and chapter of the cathedral at dinner in St. Al- bhan's Guild Hall. Right Rev. Thomas ¥. Gailor, D. D., Bishop of Tennessee and president of the National Council of the Episcopal Church in America, will make an address describing the needs of the general church. After this there will be & social w e Thursday. The convention will reassemble in Alban’s Church Thursday morn- at an hour to be fixed by vote of convention. It is expected that Hall in St he convention Alban's Church close I Reassem st n the it will complete its business before adjournment that day. The election of four clergymen and four laymen to represent the dio- cese of Washington at the general convention of the Episcopal Church, which will meet In New Orleans next October, and the election of members of the standing committee of the dio- cese, which at the present time is short one member due to the recent death of J. Holdsworth Gordon, will be held conomy in the administration of the business of the diocese is one of the matters which wiil receive considerable attention from the con- vention May Take Up Chureh Consolidatio: The conventlon, it is said, may be called on to consider the consolida- tion of certain churches, ditions In the neighborhood do not seem to warrant the maintenance of two places of worship. In other lo- calities it may be desirable to erect new chapels. All other matters re- lating to the dlocese us & whole, and especially to its local missionary work, will be considered by the con- vention.
