The valuation of ‘the property of the Chesapeake and Potomac Tele- phone is likely to be increased somewhat as a result of the inventory in preparation of the public hearing on telephone rates to be held by the Utilities Com- mission, February 18, it was indicated today. Should the valuation be revised up- ward as a result of changes in con- ditions since the original value was arrived at the effect would be to lessen the possibility of rate reduc- tions. It was reported today that if a reduction is found possible after the public hearing next month it probably would not be more than 15 or 25 cents a month to household users. he present outlook is that the @se will hinge on the revision of the valuation and a scrutiny of operating expenses to determine whether any savings could bLe effected In that re- spect. The, question of the propriety of charging radio broadcasting to op- erating expenses is expected to be brought up at the hearing. One sug- gestion which may be put forward is that th the 41: per cent of gross earnings, which the local company pays an- nually to the Amerfcan Telephone and Telegraph Co. for various services rendered by the parent concern When a preliminary hearing on tele. phone rates was held several months ago the company contended its prop- erty should be revalued and an- nounced that it hag already begun making an inventory. The commis- sion then decided to defer action pending study of the inventory. “23 Years of Successful Dentistry” Dr. Vaughan 303 7th St. N.W. Phone Main 1281 FLAT TIRE?
