Best fnion was that the big jump in Commercial Solvents was due to extraordinary earnings. The oil shares went higher early in the day and were better supported than any other group in the later trading. New high prices were the rule in stocks like Pacific Ofl, Phillips Petroleum, Texas Company, Sinclair, which sold above 20, Associated Oil and Skelly, which got above 27. The Street was still optimistic on the oils because until recently, they had taken very little part in the general ad- vance . NEW YORK, January 26.—Missouri, Kansas and Texas adjustments were one feature in today’s trading in bonds. Following an advanoce ‘of over 3 points last week, a price of over 86 was recorded today, being a new high record. Other speculative railroad bonds were active and firm, but in none was the buying persistent as in the “Katy” adjustments. Earnings are very favorable and the statement for the full year is expected to show both fixed and contingent charges covered more than one and a half times, but at 85 the income return is DY 1o means so attractive as it was two weeks ago, when the bonds were eelling just above 7 Sugar Group Strong. Louis-San Francisco income 6s also displa strength, responding to a good December earning report Fractional galns were made also by the ady ent 6s. On the other hand, Scaboard Air Line s, which had such a phenomenal rise last week, showed the effect of profit- taking sales. Chicago and Eastern Tilinofs got up to again within a fraction of the record for the year. Among the industrials there were 4 number of strong spots, some Of them In the sugar group. Cuba Cane 85 sold at 101, up a point and a quar- ter from the low of last week and at a new high for 1925. The same company’s 7 per cent bonds gained three-fourths of a point Manati Sugar 7!is sold above par. Oils Come to Front. Sinclair Ol 6i:s were in urgent demand, at one time up 2 points over Saturday's close. Skelly Oil 6135 also went up 2 points along with the stock. There was good support for the second-grade investment issues, but little change in price. International Mercantile Marine 6s at 90 equaled their best price 1n more than a yvear. The low in 1924 was more than 10 points down from this price. At today's quotation the yield is still over 7 per cent. Although the company has suffered in common with others in its line from the shipping depression, it is understood that operations have much improved of late, and there was never any doubt about the great equities back of the bonds. New Land Bank Issue. Quotations for foreign issues were little changed. The new $10,000,000 Allgemeine Llektricitats Gesellschaft offered today were promptly sold, and when listed on the exchange were traded in at a premium over the offer- ing price, which was 93%, to yield 7.70 per cent. Other new offerings of the day included $1,000,000 New York Joint Stock Land Bank bs, to yleld 4.5 per cent, and $2,500,000 Spring Brook Water Supply first 5s at par. 516,000,000 EARNED -/ BY NEW YORK BANK YORK, January t hears that the First Na of New York, of which George airman and principal slder, earned $16,000,000 last or 160 per cent on fts stock, sel'ing well above $2.000 a The institution, now known Millionaires' Bank of Wall E was considered too poor half a century ago for membership in the New York Clearing House Associa- tion.
