BY GEORGE T. HUGHES, i ispatch to The Star. W YORK, Januar§ 13.—Trac- ons were the leaders in the bond market today. Obligations of all the, local com- panies were strong and Brooklyn Manhattdn Transit 6s, selling at 85, made & new high record for all time, Dealings were very heavy. KEven at today’s, high the yield is more than 7% per cent, and present earnings cover charges by a comfortable mar- gin. Chicago Railw 5s jumped a point Hudson and Manhattan Refunding 4158 and Incomes lagged behind. Of the Utilities, Standard Gas and Electric convertible 6138 were very strong, up more than a point. Oil bonds improv- ed moderately. Sinclair 7s getting up to 82 and the 6%s to §7, against Mon- ‘s low for the last named at 85. Skelly Oil+6lzs were active, but with small net change. In the copper group Chile Copper and Magma Copper 7s were higher, while conda 7s at 104 equaled their privious price. Liberty Bonds Irregular, Interest shown in the high grade ralls Monday was not In evidence today. ew York Central 3%s sold down a point and a quarter from Monday's high, and such typical lssues as " Norfolk and Western 4s, Union Pacific first 4s and Southera Pacific refunding 4s- were at times fractionally lower. TLiberties were irregular. The demand was a littls better than on Monday. There was no quotable change in money rates, but the supply of time funds was sald to be larger. Profit-taking came into the Denver, Rlo Grande and Western which have had so sharp a rise re- cently, but these bonds w still n ture of this part of the list. N York Central debenture 6s made =« rew high above 117 in sympathy with the advance in the stock. Considerable interest was taken in the offerings of a stock of Missouri Pacific 7 per cent notes secured by New Orleans Texas and Mexico stock These notes were issued to finan cquisition by the Missouri Pacif of the Gulf Coast Line and were priced at 100 to yield 7 per cent new Today's New Issues. Price changes in foreign bonds were small. City of Copenhagen 5'3s got up a half point to 96, anticipating the time when the bonds will be redeem- able for the sinking fund at par. Today's new offerings included First Joint Stock Land Bank of Montgomery, Ala., 5s at 102 and $3.750,000 Brooklyn City Rail- road 5 per cent equipments to yield from 4.50 to $.50 per cent LIVE POULTRY LOWER. CHICAGO, January cents a bushel of wheat today 13.—~Nearly 3 as added to the value shortly after busi- ness began. May delivery of wheat soared to 1.86%, a new igh price record for the season, with July also much above any previous top. Ag- gressive buylng on the part of a number of strong commission houses, together with the fact that values at Liverpool and Buenos Aires were fully reflecting the price bulges in this country, was the chief apparent basis for the upward swing of the market. Opening quotations, which varied from the same as yesterday's finish to 3% higher, May 1.85 to 1.85% and July 15614 to 1.56%, were fol- lowed by a slight setback and then by a sharp general advance. Corn and oats acted in sympathy with wheat. After opening unchanged to 3% up, May 1.30 to 1.30%, corn receded a little and then scored good general gains, Oats ~ started unchanged to higher, May, 621 to 621, and later continued to ascend.
